Communist Prague Walking Tour

We'll meet at 10:30 am in Wenceslas Square to begin our tour in search of the remnants of communist Prague.

Following the German occupation in World War II, the Third Republic of Czechoslovakia was born in 1945. We'll learn about the postwar lifestyle as we visit the surroundings of the old Czech parliament and, as we advance along the route, we'll discover how Moscow influenced Prague. The tour will also pass by the current headquarters of the Czech Communist Party, which still runs for elections today.

Then, we'll learn more about other state buildings from the Communist period and delve into the history of the Prague Spring, the famous 1968 event when the city was invaded by troops from Moscow and its Warsaw Pact allies. There will also be an opportunity to visit an old bunker, a symbol of the panic experienced by the population during a nuclear attack in the Cold War.

Finally, we'll reach the most emblematic sites of the Velvet Revolution, a movement started in the 1990s that facilitated the peaceful separation of Czechoslovakia into the Czech and Slovak Republics.

After 2.5 hours of touring, we'll say our goodbyes back at the starting point.

Visit a nuclear bunker

The tour includes a visit to the nuclear bunker in Wenceslas Square. This underground defensive construction is located 65 feet (20 meters) below the Hotel Jalta. It now houses the Cold War Museum, where visitors can see the telecommunications systems and uniforms of the time.

Private Tour
