Vyšehrad Free Tour
A fortress, a park, a church, a cemetery... Take this free tour of Vyšehrad Hill, one of Prague's most important walled enclosures.
Vyšehrad Free Tour
We'll meet at Vyšehrad underground station at the agreed time. From here we'll walk across the Nuselsky Bridge, next to the Prague Congress Centre, to the walled city of Vyšehrad.
As we approach the Vyšehrad Fortress we'll learn the stories of this place. One of them is about Princess Libuše, who according to legend was the founder of Prague in the 8th century. We'll see her sculpture in Vyšehrad Park, one of the most picturesque green areas of the Czech capital.
Next to the park we'll visit the funerary sculptures in the Vyšehrad Cemetery. The cemetery is the resting place of famous Czechs such as the musician Antonín Dvorak. The cemetery is flanked on one side by the Slavín. The remains of important figures such as the painter Alfons Mucha rest in this funeral monument.
We'll then pass by the neo-Gothic Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. Nearby is an excellent viewpoint over the Vltava River. On the way down from the hill where the church stands we'll approach the cubist houses of Villa Kovarovic, whose architecture revolutionised the urban landscape of Prague.
We'll end our guided tour of Vyšehrad at the Vyton tram station, located next to the cubist houses. From here you can take a tram to the centre of Prague.
